LAUNDERING OF NYLON
AIM :---To learn the method of washing and finishing of nylon .
INTRODUCTION :--- Nylon was the first fiber to synthesized from materials none of which had previously been fibers in nature .
A mixture of two co altar products a Adi pic acid , diabasic acid and Hexamethylene Di amine containing Hydrogen is heated to give a content product known as Nylon polymer .
Absorbency is low and this makes it a quick drying and easily washable fiber . It has good wrinkle resistance and crease recovery .
It has very good abrasion resistance and is considered a very durable fiber . It is degraded by exposure to light . It is not chemically reactive
to soap , alkalies or alcohol but reacts readily to acid .
PREPARATION :---Test the color of the article as nylon will not be bleached . The color of the fiber is not fast run light strong acid and alkalies have harmful effects and nylons mend tear before washing .

STAIN REMOVAL :---Stain removal is rather difficult , The stain should treated carefully by using simple methods or by applying very dilute solution of
chemicals .
SOAPS AND WATER :--- The soap used for washing for nylons should be
nutral and water should be soft .
Make a free and permanent lather of soap in water . The
water can be of luke , warm , temperature for every soiled articles open out the garment in soap solution and wash with light kneading and squeezing method . Articles should not remain in water for a very long time and soap kneading and sqeezing should lift . When articles are lifted out of water the weight must be supported with the hands and should be placed on a draining board . Soiled parts should be carefully robbed with soap lather .
RINSING :---Rinse the nylon article in two or three times in water to remove the soiled soap from the fabric . If any soap is left in fabric it will damage and gave a bad smell to the article .
DRYING :--Removal of moisture is important as nylon retains much moisture .
Squeeze the fabric between the palms of hands to remove the moisture . It is still safer to wash the article in a towel and squeez two together .
Nylon should be protected from heat and so drying
in the sun should avoided . It is advisable to dry them in a shady place to
prevent the fading of color . Article should be spreadout in proper shade to
ensure even drying by air .
FINISHING :---Only light pressing with low heat iron necessary to the original
appearance of the fabric .
