Bring out the thread at the bottom left hand corner of the work.Insert the needle on the top line at a point further to the right and take a short stitch through fabric from right to left. So as to get a slating stitch. Now take a short stitch through fabric from right to left on lower line to get another slanting stitch crossing the first one at a point little below the top line. Take care to make stitches of even length at regular distances apart. When worked closely this stitch can be used to do shadow work. There are many variations in this stitch.
